Although Jasper has strong ties to the timber and wood products industries, many other small to medium-sized industries flourish in the area.
Jasper's work force, completely nonunion, is on of its primary assets, with an abundance of both skilled and unskilled workers possessing strong work ethics. Low wage rates coupled with a relatively high unemployment rate (8.6%) allows local companies a competitive advantage.
Jasper County currently has a workforce of 15,480: 14,392 are employed, 1,088 are unemployed, comprising an unemployment rate of 7% (August 2006)
State supported training programs and vocational programs in the local school districts and through Angelina College furnish qualified workers.
